Let’s say a person wants to praise God in Yoruba and he or she says:

Ẹniti iṣe Olubukún ati Alagbara na kanṣoṣo!

Ọba awọn ọba, ati Oluwa awọn oluwa!

Ẹnikanṣoṣo ti o ni aikú!

Ti ngbe inu imọlẹ ti a kò le sunmọ!

Ẹniti enia kan kò ri rí ti kò si le ri!

Ẹniti ọla ati agbara titi lai iṣe tirẹ!

The person would be simply quoting 1 Timothy 6:15 & 16.

Which contains these names and characteristics Paul the apostle ascribed to God

1 Timothy 6:15

which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords

[Yoruba Bible]

Eyiti yio fihàn ni igba tirẹ̀, Ẹniti iṣe Olubukún ati Alagbara na kanṣoṣo, Ọba awọn ọba, ati Oluwa awọn oluwa;

1 Timothy 6:16

who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power. Amen.

[Yoruba Bible]

Ẹnikanṣoṣo ti o ni aikú, ti ngbe inu imọlẹ ti a kò le sunmọ, ẹniti enia kan kò ri rí ti kò si le ri: ẹniti ọla ati agbara titi lai iṣe tirẹ. Amin.

In the opinion of some, Paul probably did not have the revelation of Christ and didn’t know the fatherhood of God.

Otherwise he should have just said

1 Timothy 6:15 (Alakowe version)

Which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed Father, the Father of kings and Father of lords

1 Timothy 6:16 (Alakowe version)

Who alone has fatherhood, dwelling in approachable fatherhood, which all sons with revelation have seen and can see, to whom be the honor of continuous fatherhood. Amen.

Consider the first recorded prayer of the apostles and disciples

Acts 4:24

And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art GOD, WHICH HAST MADE HEAVEN, AND EARTH, AND THE SEA, AND ALL THAT IN THEM IS:

Then all the believers were united as they lifted their voices in prayer: ‘O SOVEREIGN LORD, CREATOR OF HEAVEN AND EARTH, THE SEA, AND EVERYTHING IN THEM

Yoruba Bible says

Nigbati nwọn si gbọ́, nwọn fi ọkàn kan gbé ohùn wọn soke si Ọlọrun nwọn si wipe, OLUWA, ÌWỌ TI O DA ỌRUN ON AIYE, ATI OHUN GBOGBO TI MBẸ NINU WỌN

Igbo Bible says

Ma mb͕e ha nuru ya, ha were otù obi welie olu-ha kpọkue Chineke, si, ỌKAAKAA ONYE-NWE-AYI, GI ONWE-GI BU ONYE KÈRE ELU-IGWE NA ALA NA OKÉ OSIMIRI, NA IHE NILE DI HA NIME

Please read the entire prayer from Acts 4: 24-30, and search for where they called God Father ….

Yet the prayer was exceeding powerful and effective.

They were not just addressing the Father of the family, they were addressing the King of the Kingdom. Please note that in this prayer, twice (verses 27&30) they called Jesus the holy CHILD of God. Other translations say “holy SERVANT”

Both are correct (Greek: PAIS).

Concerning the family of God, Christ is the Son and He calls the Father, Father; but concerning the kingdom, Christ is the servant and calls Him God.

John 20:17

Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to MY FATHER and YOUR FATHER, and to MY GOD and YOUR GOD.’

Note that He didn’t just say My Father and your Father, but added My God and your God. Also note that He didn’t say OUR Father or OUR God, but my AND yours.

Even THE Son of God calls Him BOTH Father and God.

One pertains to family and the other pertains to Kingdom

See Again

Revelation 3:21

“To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with MY FATHER on His throne.

Revelation 3:12

“He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of MY GOD, and he shall go out no more. And I will write on him the name of MY GOD and the name of the city of MY GOD, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from MY GOD. And I will write on him My new name.

In matters of His works and His worship, He is GOD (Creator, King of kings, Lord of lords)

In matters of inheritance and representation, He is FATHER.

This is the nature of our relationship with God, the Father.

Concerning the family of God, there is neither male nor female, we all are sons of God in Christ Jesus

Galatians 3:26

For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 3:27

For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

Galatians 3:28

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is NEITHER MALE NOR FEMALE; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

But concerning the kingdom as it devolves on the church on earth, the head of every man is Christ, the head of the woman is the man, and the head of Christ is God.

1 Corinthians 11:3

But I want you to know that the head of EVERY MAN is Christ, THE head of WOMAN is man, and the HEAD OF CHRIST is God.

Some, like toddlers, don’t understand this.

They seem to understand the matter of family, but not the matter of kingdom. They seem to understand the matter of grace but not the matter of authority.

It is true that some names are not appropriate for God; and we know that God is our Father, but that is not His only name.

Concerning referring to the names of different gods from your old tradition, are you also without knowledge?

1 Corinthians 8:5

1 Corinthians 8:6

BUT WE KNOW THAT THERE IS ONLY ONE GOD, the Father, who created everything, and we exist for him. And there is only one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom God made everything and through whom we have been given life.

1 Corinthians 8:7

HOWEVER, NOT ALL CHRISTIANS REALIZE THIS. SOME ARE ACCUSTOMED TO THINKING OF IDOLS AS BEING REAL, so when they eat food that has been offered to idols, they think of it as the worship of real gods, and their weak consciences are violated.

And again

Acts 17:23

For as I was walking along I saw your many altars. And one of them had this inscription on it–‘To an Unknown God.’ YOU HAVE BEEN WORSHIPING HIM WITHOUT KNOWING WHO HE IS, AND NOW I WISH TO TELL YOU ABOUT HIM.

Acts 17:24

‘He is the God who made the world and everything in it. Since he is Lord of heaven and earth, he doesn’t live in man-made temples…

It is not peculiar to Africa. That was 1st century Asia. They were worshipping the God they didnt know.

And Paul declared to them that

Ọlọrun Aimọ́ was “Oluwa ọrun on aiye to da aiye ati ohun gbogbo ti mbẹ ninu rẹ̀”

Christian worship has replaced and superseded traditions and religions of various peoples and nations; rendering them useless, because it is the true worship.

Jesus revealed the mystery of God, both of the Father, and the Son (see Colossians 2:2)  and made us His serving sons.

Whatsoever some forefathers may have felt about Olowogbogboro or Amadioha or Zeus…..they were either talking about spirits who are no gods, or WORSHIPPING AN “UNKNOWN GOD”.

Some of those traditional names are useless, but some of them are still useful because such names describe qualities that can only be ascribed to GOD {JEHOVAH YAHWEH}, so Christian worship has incorporated them, and rightly so.

Please let us endeavour to learn properly the simple things of scripture before electing ourselves the teachers of the whole church.

Thank you.
