“Moving forward”, the revelation of US and UK Visa…
In Acts 20, Paul called the elders of the Church in Ephesus and had a ministers’ conference with them.
In verse 28 he said “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.”
It’s a dangerous thing when the elder deviates from feeding God’s flock, to talk earthly matters due to denominational custom.
I was younger both in calendar year and in spiritual matter. I was in an assembly wherein a respected pastor spoke on” Our year of moving forward.”
He paced back and forth confidently talking about” moving forward.” He tied it to getting US and UK Visa.
He gave a testimony of a family who got their Visas.” Some of you are local champions”, he said sharply.
“Where’s the keyboardist? You must play in America. Where’s the drummer? You must play it in the UK.”
He said “Take a step of faith. Go and apply for the Visa.” He sounded so eloquent and confident that a sister interrupted shouting “I receive it!”
I turned to the brother seated at my right side, “Please must i be in America to be sure that I’ve moved forward?”
“Hmmmm. You’re right sir. I think you’re right.” The brother responded with a glee of innocence and simplicity.
Walking back home that day i cried to God. “O Lord! Test me with the pulpit and your people. See if I’ll teach your word or something else.”
I left the assembly dry and sad in my spirit. I knew it’s a good thing to travel overseas when it’s worthwhile, but I wasn’t there to know how to get Visa. I thirsted for Christ and his revelation.
I wanted to be fed with sound doctrine and word of faith. All i heard was about UK and US Visa to show that I’ve moved forward.
Today, much of what we call “church” isn’t any better if we’ve not turned worse in Nigeria. All we long for are worldly affairs, while we’re lean in our souls.
Preachers with these kind of speeches get the largest following in this age, while the ones with sound doctrine get few people’s attention.
There are churches organised in such a way that those who teach the Truth are relegated, while those who teach what soothes are celebrated.
One thing that’s sure is that in the midst of the confusion in churches and the abomination on many pulpits, God still calls His own to their closets.
They don’t follow the crowd. Even if it means to be alone, they follow Jesus that speaks in their hearts.
They know that gathering with a crowd isn’t same as cultivating a filial relationship with God through Christ Jesus.
God bless you.
